Thanks to everyone who wrote in with a request for last week's podcast transcript. You have helped illuminate that there is an interest in sharing my essays on FEEDBACK in particular with your friends and colleagues outside of this mighty newsletter crew. I am still organizing my future ARCHIVES - which will allow us to have a home for all these little things like newsletter archives and podcast transcripts but in the meantime what follows is the requested transcript from WHY FEEDBACK IS LIKE SPAGHETTI. You can also listen to it here. WHY FEEDBACK IS LIKE SPAGHETTI PSYCHOLOGY AND SEEING WHAT STICKS. This past weekend marked a real milestone for me in skateboarding. I was finally able to...
THE WORLD FEEDBACK SURVEY Oh this feels BIG and very exciting! I hit the pause button on presenting my Human Centered Design Systems course project (we will pick up there next week) because I finally finished something that has been in the works for a few months now. And I just couldn’t wait to share. Introducing the World Feedback Survey! The purpose of this survey is to collect stories of memorable feedback for a study to help inform how we can become better at both giving and receiving useful feedback. Cool, right?! Head on over to my website and share your story, it only takes 3 minutes and you will be helping me shape the future of feedback! ...
Welcome to the final installment of my Human-Centered Systems Thinking project! I'm excited to share this final phase. Thanks so much for all your questions! Keep sending them my way, I'm always happy to chat systems with you! This final part of the project involves dissecting stakeholder interviews to discover a point of leverage for change. After evaluating potential leverage points for change, I determined that experimenting with feedback expectations in the classroom met both the requirements for impact and ease of...
First, a big giant THANK YOU, high five and bear hug to all of you who filled out THE WORLD FEEDBACK SURVEY! I have been reading your stories and they are truly heartfelt. Those of you who are interested in being interviewed, I'll be responding, so hang tight. But for now, big ugly cry thank you for participating in this adventure. If you missed the announcement last week, head here to learn more. As Part Two of my Feedback + Critique discussion, I’m excited to share my project on feedback for the Human-Centered Systems Thinking course I completed last month. For those of you who have asked, the course is offered through IDEO University. I have completed two of their courses, and...
I’ve spent the last 5 weeks completing a Human Centered System Thinking Course. Based on the name I had no idea what it was either. Essentially I took a course about solving organizational challenges by focusing on the connections and relationships between different groups of people within a system and how these relationships and connections facilitate and impede organizational goals and wellbeing. Simple enough. And the course was fantastic. I loved it and I will be sharing the project I worked on for the duration of the course in next week's newsletter. But for now, I wanted to share a larger observation of the course. And it centers on the exclusive nature of language. It seems that the design...
